Hyundai Mobis Unveils Core Technologies to Clients at Sweden Winter Test Site

20th Anniversary of Swedish Test Site Operations

Integrated Demonstration of Core Components for Braking and Steering

Hyundai Mobis announced on March 3 that it is holding a demonstration event for new technologies, inviting global clients to its winter test center in Sweden. Around 100 representatives from more than 10 client companies in Europe and North America are expected to visit sequentially over a period of about ten days, starting from last weekend.

Hyundai Mobis is demonstrating new products-either under consideration for orders or scheduled for supply-by installing them in demo vehicles, conducting driving evaluations, and identifying clients' needs. Since each client has different preferences and requirements, the company is expected to accelerate the development and supply of core components tailored to each customer.

The winter test center, located in Arjeplog, northern Sweden, began operations in 2006 and is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Situated at latitude 63 degrees north, the site is renowned for its vast snowy fields and icy surfaces, where temperatures can plummet to minus 40 degrees Celsius during winter.

At the winter test center, the durability and quality of products are ultimately verified under harsh cold and severe road conditions. Not only core parts such as braking, steering, and suspension, but also essential sensors for electrification and autonomous driving-designed and manufactured by Hyundai Mobis-are validated here. From January to March this year, more than 60 projects were tested at the site. During this period, Hyundai Mobis shipped over 80 vehicles to Sweden, using them to confirm whether parts designed to withstand challenging conditions such as snowy and icy roads met their evaluation criteria.

Researchers venture out onto the snowfield every morning, even in extreme cold, to inspect vehicles and set up equipment. Despite weather conditions involving snow and strong winds, they repeatedly drive the vehicles to verify fine control characteristics and detect unexpected changes in road conditions, incorporating these findings into their data. On some days, outdoor testing continues for more than 10 hours.

Hyundai Mobis also operates a winter test center in Heihe, Heilongjiang Province, northern China, where it verifies core components for local Chinese models. During the summer, the company utilizes its testing facilities in New Zealand, enabling year-round verification and reliability assessment of both mass-production and advanced development components under simulated winter conditions.

While operating the winter test center, Hyundai Mobis invites a diverse range of global clients from North America and Europe to experience its technologies firsthand. By evaluating products together with clients, the company aims to enhance its technological competitiveness.

Hyundai Mobis stated, "Last year, we achieved core component orders totaling USD 9.1 billion (approximately KRW 13 trillion), exceeding our target order value for global automakers by about 23%," adding, "This year, we are accelerating our order activities with an advanced product portfolio, including battery systems and next-generation electronic components, aiming to surpass last year's performance."
