LG AI Research Establishes Dedicated Organization for Physical AI

Developing Behavior Models as the "Robot Brain"

LG AI Research has embarked on developing artificial intelligence (AI) for robots.

According to the industry on February 13, LG AI Research expanded and reorganized its existing Vision Lab into the Physical Intelligence Lab last month. A lab is one of the seven top-level organizational units that make up LG AI Research. The lab has expanded its role from developing visual information models to developing behavior models needed to operate robots and smart factories.

With the establishment of this new organization, LG Group is expected to accelerate the strengthening of its physical AI capabilities at the group level. Centering on LG AI Research, which serves as the group’s think tank, LG is seeking company-wide synergies through initiatives such as LG Electronics’ humanoid robots, LG Uplus’ agent AI, and LG Innotek’s sensor components.

At CES 2026 held earlier this year, LG Electronics unveiled its humanoid household robot “Cloid” and highlighted robots as a future growth engine. Following an agreement to jointly develop a vision sensing system for Atlas, the humanoid robot of Hyundai Motor Group’s Boston Dynamics, LG Innotek recently began supplying camera modules in the United States.
