The traffic system around the platform area of Gwangju Songjeong Station is being changed. A pilot reorganization plan has been launched to separate boarding and drop-off zones and to overhaul the rules for using ride-hailing taxis, in order to resolve chronic congestion and pedestrian safety issues.
Gwangju City announced on February 9, 2026, that it has reorganized the traffic system around the platform area of Gwangju Songjeong Station to reduce chronic traffic congestion and inconvenience for passengers. The city plans to introduce the new system in full in the first half of this year after deploying on-site guides to monitor operations.
The core of the reorganization is the functional separation of boarding and drop-off zones and the improvement of the ride-hailing taxi use system. Previously, boarding and alighting vehicles were mixed together, repeatedly causing congestion and accident risks.
To disperse the flow of vehicles that had been concentrated near Exit 5 of the Gwangju Songjeong Station subway stop, Gwangju City has created a new drop-off-only zone in front of Exit 3, approximately 100 meters ahead.
In cooperation with mobile platforms such as Kakao Taxi, Uber Taxi, and T-money, the navigation system has been improved so that when the destination is set to "Gwangju Songjeong Station," it automatically guides vehicles to the drop-off-only zone. This is currently being applied to taxis and will be expanded to general vehicles in the future.
A dedicated boarding stand for ride-hailing taxis has been newly installed in front of Exit 2 of the Gwangju Songjeong Station subway stop. Platform settings have been applied so that taxis can be hailed only at the designated boarding stand. This measure is intended to reduce confusion with regular waiting taxis and to decrease situations in which pedestrians cross the roadway back and forth.

Private cars cannot stop there because the road in front of the station is a strict no-parking and no-stopping zone. The city recommends using the 30-minute free turnaround option at the Gwangju Songjeong Station parking building.
Gwangju City plans to reinforce information signs and deploy on-site guides to reduce confusion among citizens. The current reorganization plan was drawn up after consultation meetings with the taxi industry and on-site inspections.
