The Personal Information Protection Commission announced on the 5th that it has newly appointed eight members to the Personal Information Dispute Mediation Committee. Their term is two years, until February 4, 2028.

원본보기 아이콘The newly appointed members are Jeongho Kwak, Professor at the Department of Big Data and AI at Hoseo University; Byungil Kim, Professor at Hanyang University School of Law; Hana Kim, Attorney at Law Firm Duyul; Hyunsoo Kim, Professor at Pusan National University School of Law; Minsu Shin, Director at the consumer group Sobijawahamme; Eunkyu Lee, Representative of the human rights organization Sum under Human Rights Solidarity; Hanbon Lee, Attorney at Law Firm Jeongdo; and Kyungjin Cha, Professor of Management Information Systems at the College of Business, Hanyang University.
The Personal Information Protection Commission expects that the newly appointed members will further strengthen the expertise of the Dispute Mediation Committee, based on their specialized knowledge in artificial intelligence (AI), data, and remedies for damages.
The Dispute Mediation Committee was established under Article 40 of the Personal Information Protection Act to support relief for damages caused by personal information infringements. It is composed of up to 30 experts from various fields, including academia, the legal profession, civil society, consumer groups, and business organizations.
Anyone who has suffered damage due to incidents such as personal information leakage or infringement can apply for dispute mediation. If the parties accept the decision of the Dispute Mediation Committee, it has the same effect as a judicial settlement.
