Dongducheon City in Gyeonggi Province signed the “Dongducheon City-Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education Memorandum of Understanding on Gyeonggi Shared Schools for Regional Education Cooperation” on the 4th, with Mayor Park Hyungdeok of Dongducheon City and Lim Jeongmo, superintendent of the Dongducheon Yangju Office of Education, in attendance.

원본보기 아이콘The purpose of this memorandum of understanding is to build a system of mutual cooperation that actively utilizes Dongducheon City’s diverse educational resources to provide customized education tailored to each student’s characteristics and needs, and to cultivate future talents equipped with character and competence.
Under the memorandum of understanding, Dongducheon City plans to establish a regional education cooperation network and to support the customized growth of students by linking various local educational resources, including city-affiliated institutions and foundations, with Gyeonggi Shared Schools. The memorandum will be effective for two years from the date of signing, and it may be amended or renewed during the term by mutual agreement.
Based on this memorandum of understanding, there will be a total of 19 regional education cooperation projects jointly promoted by Dongducheon City and the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education in 2026, with an overall budget of 2.84 billion won. Of this amount, Dongducheon City’s budget is 2.36 billion won. Major projects include the “Student Future Competency Enhancement Program,” which strengthens students’ software skills through artificial intelligence education, and the “Co-created Middle and High School Project,” which realizes student-centered customized education based on school autonomy.
In addition to the regional education cooperation projects, Dongducheon City is also pursuing 21 independent municipal projects in 2026 as part of its education expense support program, including support for student self-governance festivals, a public contest project for establishing AI classrooms, and a public contest project for “Dream-Realization” clubs. The city will also implement 13 response-support projects in cooperation with the provincial office of education, such as survival swimming, support for school uniforms and gym uniforms for new students, and school environment improvement projects.
Mayor Park Hyungdeok of Dongducheon City stated, “Through this memorandum of understanding, I hope to see an educational environment created in which the region’s diverse educational resources are organically connected to support the growth of each individual student,” adding, “We will continue to promote region-specific education policies through close cooperation with the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education.”
