The ready-mix concrete plant in Oedong-eup, Gyeongju City, which has been a long-cherished wish for local residents to see removed for several decades and has been regarded as a representative hazardous facility in the area, will finally disappear into history.

This demolition goes beyond the simple dismantling of a building and reflects Gyeongju City's commitment to restoring a pleasant living environment to residents who have long suffered from noise and fugitive dust.

Starting from the groundbreaking next month, the city plans to sequentially demolish all facilities within the plant and to carry out the rural space improvement project without disruption through the end of this year.

The project will cost a total of 9.9 billion won, including 2.5 billion won in national funding, and is expected to dramatically improve residential conditions in the Oedong-eup area.

The site, once demolition is completed, will first undergo leveling work and then be directly managed by the city.

Gyeongju City is actively reviewing ways to attract various public contest projects from government ministries by taking advantage of the locational strengths of the site.

The city envisions developing the area not only as a cleared hazardous facility site but also as a new hub space that can attract new residents and revitalize the local economy.

Gyeongju Mayor Joo Nak-young said, "The long-cherished wish of Oedong-eup residents, who have endured inconvenience in their daily lives for decades, has finally come to fruition," and emphasized, "As construction work involving large equipment will begin next month, I ask all residents to take special care to avoid entering the site during the construction period for your safety."

Meanwhile, Gyeongju City plans to make thorough efforts to reduce inconvenience to residents, such as continuously deploying watering operations and on-site management personnel, in order to minimize noise and fugitive dust that may occur during the demolition process.
