Barunson Entertainment and Arts is accelerating its push into the Southeast Asian content market by joining forces with Studio N, the video production subsidiary of Naver Webtoon.

According to Barunson Entertainment and Arts and Studio N on February 5, the two companies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to jointly produce localized content for three Southeast Asian countries - Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam - based on creative intellectual property (IP) such as webtoons and web novels for which Studio N has secured adaptation rights.

This agreement is a strategic partnership that combines Studio N's planning capabilities, which have led the spread of K-content on the global stage, with Barunson Entertainment and Arts' production capabilities, built on a strong partner network across Southeast Asia. The two companies plan to enhance content competitiveness and pursue expansion into the global market through localization-based joint production.

Barunson Entertainment and Arts has been achieving results in the Indonesian market. Its sequel "Agak Lain: Menyala Pantiku!", released in November last year, attracted a cumulative audience of 10.93 million and topped the Indonesian local box office. The company is also collaborating with GDH, Thailand's largest film studio, and in Vietnam it won two awards in the Critics' Week section at the Venice International Film Festival with the film "Don't Cry Butterfly."

Studio N, the video production subsidiary of Naver Webtoon, drew 5.64 million moviegoers with the film "Zombie Daughter," while its Netflix series "Chicken Nugget" became the only Korean work to be nominated in the comedy category at the 53rd International Emmy Awards. Studio N has also released the drama "Jeong Nyeon" and the Netflix series "Intensive Care Unit."

Choi Yoonhee, CEO of Barunson Entertainment and Arts, said, "Through our overseas business experience, we have witnessed firsthand the rapid changes and potential of the Southeast Asian market," adding, "Studio N's IP, which has global scalability, is the optimal partner for jointly implementing our localization strategy in Southeast Asia." She continued, "We will create competitive content that encompasses both regional characteristics and a global sensibility."
