Hamyang County in South Gyeongsang Province announced on the 5th that it is recruiting tenants for the “10,000-won rental housing” through the “Hwandae House Construction Project” aimed at attracting return-to-farming and return-to-rural migrants.
The “Hwandae House Construction Project” is a program being promoted since 2025 to support the stable settlement of urban residents. Its core is to remodel vacant houses within Hamyang County and provide them to prospective return-to-farming and return-to-rural migrants at an affordable monthly rent of 10,000 won.
The project operates by selecting houses among vacant properties in all towns and townships of Hamyang County that have been leased to the county free of charge, remodeling them using the Local Extinction Response Fund, and then recruiting tenants. The rental period is two years, and the contract can be extended.
The tenant recruitment period runs for seven days from February 4 to 10, 2026. Applicants should refer to the recruitment notice posted in the public notices section of the official Hamyang County website and submit the required documents, including the tenant application form and settlement plan. Applications can be submitted in person at the Population Policy Division or by mail. For mailed applications, the documents must arrive at the Population Policy Division by 6:00 p.m. on February 10, 2026.
To be eligible to apply as of the announcement date, all of the following conditions must be met: the applicant must be scheduled to move into Hamyang County or have moved in less than two years ago; the applicant must have resided in another region for at least five years before moving to Hamyang County (foreign nationals are excluded); and neither the applicant nor any household member may own a house within Hamyang County.
This first round of tenant recruitment targets a house located in Hawon-ri, Anui-myeon. Additional units will subsequently be supplied in the order of Hamyang-eup, Macheon-myeon, Hyucheon-myeon, Jigok-myeon, and Anui-myeon. In addition, construction in Seohwa-myeon and Seosang-myeon will be expedited so that tenant recruitment can begin there as well.
The head of the Population Policy Division of Hamyang County said, “We have prepared affordable rental housing so that urban residents can settle stably and design a second life in Hamyang County, where they can enjoy relaxation and healing,” adding, “We look forward to strong interest from those who wish to return to farming or return to rural areas.”
He continued, “To promote the Hwandae House Construction Project in 2026, we are continuously identifying vacant houses, so we also ask for the active participation of county residents who own vacant homes.”
