Gyeonggi Province will continue to implement the G Housing project this year, a residential environment improvement program that provides free repair and renovation services for homes of low-income and vulnerable households.
The G Housing project repairs and refurbishes kitchens, bathrooms, living rooms, roofs, water leaks, windows and doors, and electrical systems in old and malfunctioning homes of low-income and vulnerable households.
It is a home repair volunteer and donation-linked project in which the Gyeonggi Volunteer Center, city and county volunteer centers, private specialist companies, and talent donors participate.
The Korea Housing Builders Association and local architects associations are participating, and Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Development Corporation (GH) is providing support through the Gyeonggi Volunteer Center.
When cities and counties identify eligible households and participating companies, private companies and volunteer organizations visit the homes, led by the Gyeonggi Volunteer Center, and carry out repairs in the form of talent donations. From 2007 through last year, a total of 1,773 households improved their homes through the G Housing project.
To invigorate the project, Gyeonggi Province plans to link each institution's participation record to the evaluation of excellence in housing administration among cities and counties and to the Governor's Commendation, thereby encouraging participation from a wide range of institutions.
Kim Taesu, Head of the Housing Policy Division of Gyeonggi Province, said, "G Housing is a public-private cooperation model in which the private sector's collaboration and the public sector are harmonized," adding, "We will continue to provide policy support to create a residential environment where residents of the province can live safely and comfortably in the places where they have been living."
