Wang Yi, director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office of the Communist Party of China (concurrently Minister of Foreign Affairs), stated that China and Vietnam must work closely together to address the two major tasks of "development" and "security."

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Director Wang met on the 3rd with Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung, who visited China as a special envoy of To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and stressed that "China and Vietnam are partners walking together on the path of socialism and brotherly countries sharing a common destiny."

He said that the two countries must safeguard the international system with the United Nations at its core and the international order based on international law, and protect the common interests of the Global South (a collective term for emerging and developing countries located in the Southern Hemisphere).

Director Wang expressed his hope to continuously expand practical cooperation in areas such as scientific and technological innovation, digital transformation, and artificial intelligence (AI), while also steadily promoting people-to-people and cultural exchanges, including "red tourism" to visit revolutionary sites of socialism.

In response, Minister Trung said, "Vietnam has always regarded its relationship with China as its top priority and strategic choice," adding, "We will firmly implement the One China policy and oppose any form of separatist activities advocating Taiwan independence."

He added, "We look forward to becoming a strategically trustworthy partner of China. We hope to jointly design the next stage of high-level exchanges and promote cooperation in economic and trade investment and in emerging sectors, so as to elevate the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Vietnam and China to an even higher level."
