Each student received full tuition for one year and a scholarship certificate. The total scholarship amount is 120 million won. In addition, they will be offered the opportunity to participate in the “JS Leaders” internship program, where medical students from Korea and abroad can receive education and training in Korean medicine treatments.
According to Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine, the selection committee highly valued the scholarship recipients' practical commitment to advancing Korean medicine and their strong sense of social responsibility.
One recipient overcame financial hardship to realize the dream of studying Korean medicine. This student was admitted to a medical school at the age of 19 but chose to enroll at Seoul National University due to the burden of tuition. However, without giving up on the dream of studying medicine, the student entered a college of Korean medicine through self-study after completing military service and went on to rank first in the department for four consecutive semesters.
The student said, "This scholarship has allowed me to focus on my studies and developing my skills," and added, "I will grow into a Korean medicine doctor who leads the scientific advancement, standardization, and globalization of Korean medicine."
Another recipient has steadily practiced sharing with the goal of completing 10,000 hours of volunteer work, and has also donated blood 269 times and pledged to donate hematopoietic stem cells. The student said, "I understand that Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine treats patients based on the management philosophy of 'Gyeonghyuljisim (矜恤之心, a compassionate heart to help those in need),'" and continued, "I too will live a life of dedication to those who are struggling."
In addition, the inclusion of a descendant of a national merit honoree among the scholarship recipients added further significance. This student said, "I am delighted to receive a scholarship from Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine, which supports descendants of independence patriots," and added, "By leveraging my ability to speak four languages - Korean, English, French, and Vietnamese - I will contribute to the globalization of Korean medicine."
In his welcome address, Lee Jinho, director of Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine, said, "Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine is at the forefront of the scientific advancement, globalization, and standardization of Korean medicine, as evidenced by being the first in Asia to receive accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), being designated as a World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Center for Integrative Medicine, and the joint academic conference scheduled this year with the Indiana University School of Medicine in the United States." He continued, "I hope this scholarship will become a valuable source of nourishment for prospective Korean medicine doctors who are devoting themselves to the development of Korean medicine," and emphasized, "We will continue to make various efforts to foster the next generation who will be responsible for the future of Korean medicine."
Meanwhile, Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine continues to carry out various social contribution activities, including medical volunteer services in rural and fishing communities, global medical support programs, and the Child Spinal Health Guardian initiative. In the field of medical volunteer work, the hospital had conducted a cumulative total of 341 volunteer programs as of last year, benefiting 52,461 people. In addition, based on its founding philosophy as a national hospital that inherits the spirit of the independence movement, it is also promoting various programs to honor patriots, including medical support for surviving independence activists.
