On December 10, the city attended the final report session for the 'Seoul Line 3 and Southern Gyeonggi Metropolitan Railway Basic Plan and Preliminary Feasibility Study,' which was held to develop improvement measures for metropolitan transportation in southern Gyeonggi. During the session, the city received a briefing on the study results and future response strategies.

The Southern Gyeonggi Metropolitan Railway is a 50.7-kilometer line connecting Seoul Sports Complex Station (Lines 2 and 9) to Seongnam, Yongin, Suwon, and Hwaseong, with a total project cost of approximately 5.275 trillion won.

The final report session was held at Suwon City Hall, with participants including representatives from Seongnam, Yongin, Suwon, and Hwaseong, as well as Gyeonggi Province and experts from the research agency. They focused on discussing the final outcomes of the study and strategies for incorporating the project into the national rail network.

The study began in September 2023. After the economic analysis last year yielded a benefit-cost (B/C) ratio of 1.2, Seongnam City officially proposed to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport that the Southern Gyeonggi Metropolitan Railway line be included in the national rail network.

Shin Sangjin, Mayor of Seongnam, stated, "The Southern Gyeonggi Metropolitan Railway is a key line that will resolve major transportation issues in southern Gyeonggi, including Seongnam. We will actively cooperate with Gyeonggi Province and the three neighboring municipalities to ensure its inclusion in the National Rail Network Construction Plan."
