Busan Port Authority Opens Gamcheon Port Workers' Welfare Support Center

A Hub for Improving Working Conditions and Enhancing Welfare
Seven-Story Welfare Facility Begins Operations

Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Song Sanggeun) held an opening ceremony for the Gamcheon Port Workers' Welfare Support Center, located in Amnam-dong, Seo-gu, Busan, on December 10.

The construction of this center was initiated in response to concerns about group infections during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, which were raised due to a lack of rest and dining spaces within Gamcheon Port. This project was promoted to enhance the convenience and ensure safer working conditions for port workers.

The center is a seven-story building with a total floor area of 1,713 square meters, housing a variety of welfare and convenience facilities for port workers, including offices, lounges, a safety training room, a fitness center, a sleeping room, and a cafeteria. After completing construction in April this year, Busan Port Authority finished final inspections such as electrical and communication work and equipment installation. With the move-in of members from the Busan Port Labor Union, the center has officially begun operations. Attendees at the opening ceremony toured the main facilities together and celebrated the opening of the center.

Song Sanggeun, President of Busan Port Authority, stated, "I hope the Gamcheon Port Workers' Welfare Support Center will bring real improvements to the working environment of many port workers and contribute to enhancing their welfare."
