Jangseong County in Jeonnam announced on December 10 that it received the highest "S grade" in the "2025 Regional Food Index Evaluation" conducted jointly by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation.

This year, the Ministry and the corporation evaluated 228 local governments across two pilot categories: rural/agricultural-urban complex and urban type. Jangseong County was awarded the grand prize after receiving high marks in both the written and on-site evaluations for criteria such as the commitment of the local government leader, the operation of "food governance," efforts to supply local food, and support for carbon reduction policies.

It is also noteworthy that Jangseong County has been recognized for six consecutive years. Since the index evaluation was first introduced in 2020, the county has consistently received either excellence or top excellence awards. This is the first year it has won the grand prize.

Starting next year, Jangseong County plans to introduce the "Jangseong Local Food Certification System" to further strengthen its food brand. The county is also accelerating preparations to open the second local food direct sales store in Ssangchon-dong, Gwangju.

Kim Hanjong, Mayor of Jangseong County, stated, "Since the launch of the Jangseong Food Integrated Support Center in 2022, we have continuously strengthened the sustainability and food safety of the production, distribution, and consumption processes for local agricultural products. This has led to Jangseong winning the grand prize for the first time," adding, "We will do our utmost to grow into Korea's leading food city."
