Pyeongtaek City in Gyeonggi Province will renovate the area around the Pyeongtaek Lake Memorial Tower to serve both as a place of remembrance and as a recreational space for citizens.
Pyeongtaek City announced on the 10th that it recently completed the final report meeting for the 'Basic Plan for the Renovation of the Pyeongtaek Lake Memorial Tower Area' and decided to proceed with the renovation in this direction.
Through the renovation, the city plans to develop the 13,500-square-meter area around the Memorial Tower as a commemorative and memorial space honoring the spirit of national patriots and fallen heroes, while also creating a recreational area for citizens that harmonizes with the Pyeongtaek Lake Tourist Complex.
To achieve this, the city will undertake the following: expand the front plaza of the Memorial Tower, install indoor exhibition facilities, create a solemn memorial path and symbolic memorial wall utilizing the site's elevation differences, rearrange the memorial facilities, establish gardens and an open lawn plaza, and secure parking spaces.
For the Veterans Park, the city will select tree species with year-round landscaping in mind and plans to plant a variety of flowering plants.
Once related administrative procedures, such as the designation of the Pyeongtaek Lake Tourist Complex and approval for changes to the development plan, are completed, construction is scheduled to begin after 2028.
