"Ride the subway with your credit card, no need for cash or transportation cards"
Busan Transportation Corporation (President Lee Byungjin) announced on December 1 that it has officially introduced a credit card payment feature to the 'Busan Metro' mobile app. The mobile app is available for download on Google Play and the App Store.
With this update, passengers can now use credit cards on the mobile app to purchase ▲single-use tickets ▲commuter passes (1-day, 3-day, and 1-month) ▲and recharge MetroPay. Previously, single-use tickets could only be purchased at ticket vending machines in stations, but this option is now available via mobile as well.
The corporation diversified its payment methods in response to the trend toward a 'cashless society' and the increase in foreign tourists. Both domestic and international card payments are supported, and overseas-issued cards (VISA, MasterCard, JCB) can be used to purchase single-use tickets and 1-day or 3-day passes. A new 'simple purchase' feature, which allows purchases without membership registration, was also introduced to enhance convenience for short-term users.
The mobile app update was refined through a month-long pilot operation in November. After incorporating feedback collected during the trial period, the official version was released on December 1.
Lee Byungjin, President of Busan Transportation Corporation, stated, "This update is a result of leveraging the scalability of the QR ticket, which is uniquely operated among urban railways nationwide, to enhance our global service competitiveness. We will continue to advance our digital services so that anyone can use the Busan Metro easily and quickly."
