Pohang City has announced its transformation into a "city ideal for work" by significantly strengthening welfare infrastructure for workers.
On November 21, Pohang City completed a major renovation of the Hodong Workers' Welfare Center and the Construction Skills School, both located on Steel Road in Nam-gu, greatly improving the facility environment for local workers' rest and education.

The Hodong Workers' Welfare Center improvement project was selected in 2022 as part of the "Regional Industrial Complex Worker Environment Improvement Contest Project" by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation. After completing the design last year, construction was finished in September this year.
Through comprehensive modernization, including interior painting and finishing repairs, as well as rooftop waterproofing, the safety and convenience of the facility have been greatly enhanced. In particular, new amenities such as a book cafe, billiards room, fitness center, table tennis room, and recreational sports room have been added, transforming the center into a multi-purpose cultural space where workers can enjoy rest and leisure.
The Construction Skills School, which had suffered from severe aging since its opening in 1998, also underwent a complete overhaul of its training environment with an investment of 1.15 billion won. Key improvements to enhance student safety and convenience included reinforcing fire-resistant structures in the welding training area, upgrading interior and exterior finishes, adding separate shower and restroom facilities for men and women, and installing a freight elevator. Through these upgrades, the school has secured greater professionalism and stability as a training-oriented educational institution.
Based on this remodeling, Pohang City plans to reorganize welding and skills training and fully operate training programs in both the first and second halves of the year. Through these efforts, the city aims to help stabilize the supply of skilled technical personnel for the local construction industry.
Mayor Lee Kangdeok stated, "The modernization of these two facilities is a meaningful achievement, enabling workers to enjoy welfare and education in a more pleasant and safe environment. Moving forward, we will continue to work together with the labor sector and the local community to enhance the competitiveness of regional industries and do our utmost to improve worker welfare."
