Sangyul Shin Promoted to Executive Vice President After Just One Year
Nongshim has promoted Sangyul Shin, Head of the Future Business Division and third-generation member of the owner family (Executive Director, age 32), to Executive Vice President. This promotion comes just one year after he was promoted to Executive Director. Yongchul Cho, Executive Vice President and Head of Sales (age 63, pictured), has been nominated as the new CEO and President.
On November 21, Nongshim announced these executive appointments. The company stated, "Executive Vice President Cho has been nominated as CEO and President effective December 1, and he will be officially appointed following the resolution at the regular general shareholders' meeting in March next year."
Cho, the newly appointed President, joined Nongshim in 2019 as Executive Director of Marketing, was promoted to Executive Vice President in 2022, and this year has overseen the Sales Division, managing domestic and international sales strategies. This move is seen as an effort to strengthen leadership across all sales and marketing operations amid Nongshim's continued overseas growth. President Cho began his career at Samsung C&T in 1987 and gained extensive overseas business experience through roles at Samsung Electronics' Global Marketing Office, as Head of Southeast Asia Marketing, and as Managing Director of the Thailand branch.
A Nongshim representative explained, "By appointing a global expert with overseas market experience and field expertise as CEO, we aim to respond to rapidly changing global trends and secure a sustainable foundation for future growth that meets global standards."
Sangyul Shin, the eldest son of Nongshim Chairman Dongwon Shin and Head of the Future Business Division, will be promoted to Executive Vice President effective January 1 next year. Born in 1993, the new Executive Vice President Shin joined the company as an entry-level employee in 2019, was selected as Managing Director in 2022, and was promoted to Executive Director last year. Now, he has been promoted again after just one year. Having overseen future business and been involved in key new growth initiatives, it is expected that his role in management will further expand going forward.
