The benches donated on this occasion were named “Renew Bench (RE + NEW)” to signify that used uniforms have been reborn as resting places for citizens. The benches were produced using a total of 10,000 discarded uniforms collected from 13 Shinsegae Department Store locations.

The Renew Benches are made from “Plusnel,” an eco-friendly new material manufactured by shredding, high-temperature compression, and rapid cooling of the collected uniforms, rather than sending them to landfill or incineration. Plusnel is highly resistant to changes in temperature and humidity, boasts outstanding durability requiring no additional maintenance, and has been used for benches, furniture, and wall panels. No adhesives or chemical products are added during the manufacturing process, making it a 100% recyclable, environmentally friendly material even after use.

The donated benches have been installed alongside the “100,000 Troops to Save the Earth Mural.”

A Shinsegae Department Store representative stated, “The ‘Renew Bench,’ which transforms discarded uniforms into benches for citizens, realizes both environmental protection and regional coexistence, embodying the true value of upcycling activities. Going forward, Shinsegae Department Store will continue to contribute to building a culture where businesses, society, and the environment thrive together through a variety of social contribution initiatives.”
