At 8:17 p.m. on November 19, a report was received by the Coast Guard that a passenger ferry had run aground in the waters near Jangsan Island, Jangsan-myeon, Sinan County, South Jeolla Province.
The ferry was reportedly carrying a total of 267 people, including 246 passengers and 21 crew members, and was traveling from Jeju to Mokpo.
It is believed that the ferry ran aground on a reef while approaching the vicinity of Jangsan Island.
After receiving the report, the Coast Guard immediately dispatched a patrol vessel to the scene. Authorities are currently working to determine the exact circumstances of the accident, including whether there have been any casualties, hull breaches, or flooding.
