Mokpo City in South Jeolla Province announced on November 19 that, in the third year of implementing the Hometown Love Donation System, it achieved its fundraising goal of 500 million won ahead of schedule, marking another meaningful accomplishment this year. The total number of donations was recorded at 4,798.

Notably, donations of 100,000 won or less-which are eligible for a full tax deduction-accounted for 98.5% of the total. By age group, donors in their 40s made up 30.9%, those in their 30s accounted for 28.8%, and those in their 50s comprised 28.6%. The city analyzed that this indicates a high level of year-end tax-saving utilization among office workers.

The achievement of the fundraising goal was driven by the interest and participation of citizens and former residents who care about Mokpo. The city plans to transparently use the donated funds in 2026 for seven major local welfare and development projects.

The seven key projects include: ▲Creating safe havens for women victims of violence ▲Providing winter hats for veterans ▲Safe-care hospital accompaniment for parents living in hometowns ▲"Happy Table, Joy for All" meal program ▲Adoption packages for stray animals ▲Free pertussis vaccinations for pregnant women ▲Educational support for young adults preparing for independence.

Jo Seokhoon, Deputy Mayor of Mokpo, stated, "I deeply appreciate the warm-hearted donations from everyone who cares about Mokpo," adding, "We will rigorously manage the funds to help resolve local challenges and lay the foundation for a happier Mokpo for all."

Since November, the city has also been running a special event to encourage more participation, offering up to a 50,000 won Naver Pay gift certificate to donors who contribute 100,000 won or more.

Meanwhile, under the Hometown Love Donation System, individuals can donate up to 20 million won annually to local governments other than their place of residence. Donations up to 100,000 won are fully tax-deductible, and donors are eligible to receive return gifts worth up to 30% of their donation.
