Yeongwol County Welcomes First Mothers at Opening of Public Postpartum Care Center

Yeongwol County in Gangwon Province officially began operations of its public postpartum care center on the 18th, with three mothers admitted on the first day. The first resident was a mother living in Yeongwol County who gave birth at Yeongwol Medical Center.

Even before the opening, there was a surge of reservation inquiries from expectant and new mothers in nearby areas such as Taebaek, Pyeongchang, Jeongseon, Jecheon, and Danyang.

The Yeongwol County Public Postpartum Care Center was built with a total investment of 6.9 billion won, including 2.25 billion won from the Local Extinction Response Fund. The center offers a variety of programs designed to systematically support mothers' recovery and newborn health.

In particular, high-quality programs such as "Maternal Yoga," "Newborn Bathing Education," and "Newborn Emergency Care Education" help mothers recover physically and prepare for early parenting. These programs include postpartum recovery stretching and breathing techniques, hands-on newborn skin and bathing care, and instructions on how to respond to emergencies. This comprehensive support enables mothers to begin parenting with confidence even after leaving the center.

Yeongwol County plans to secure additional Local Extinction Response Funds in the future to offer a wider range of services for mothers and newborns and to expand postpartum recovery support programs. The county also announced its commitment to continuously foster a city where it is easy to have and raise children, using the Local Extinction Response Fund as a catalyst to address population decline and the risk of local extinction.
