The city of Gwangju will host the 16th Gwangju Women's Film Festival from November 6 to 10, with screenings at Gwangju Theater, CGV Geumnam-ro, and Gwangju Independent Film Theater.
This year’s festival, themed “We Are the Light,” will showcase 56 films (23 feature films and 33 short films) from Korea and abroad, telling the stories of women and minorities who have stood together and supported each other in the face of exclusion and discrimination.
Tickets for screenings can be reserved on the Gwangju Women's Film Festival website or on-site. The admission fee is 5,000 won, and the barrier-free section will be screened free of charge.
Main sections include: ▲“Gwin Winners,” introducing works by emerging directors; ▲“Made in Gwangju,” highlighting female directors and women’s narratives from Gwangju; ▲the “Bali International Short Film Festival Exchange,” featuring Indonesian female directors; and ▲“Flash Asia,” focusing on the realities of Asian women and minorities. There will also be 28 talk programs, including a “Special Talk” with Yeolmae, a group of 5·18 sexual violence survivors, and “Conversations with the Audience,” where filmmakers meet viewers.
This year, the city expanded the “Gwin Winners” section to include feature films and made all “Made in Gwangju” films barrier-free, enhancing diversity and accessibility.
Lee Sinhwa, Director of the Content Industry Division, stated, “The Gwangju Women's Film Festival will broaden international film exchange and elevate Gwangju's status as a cultural city.”
