Jang Sunkyun, President of L&F, to Receive the Industrial Medal

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced that the 5th Battery Industry Day commemorative ceremony will be held on the 30th at the Josun Palace Hotel in Seoul, with Vice Minister Moon Shinhak in attendance.


Battery Industry Day is an event designed to review the achievements of the battery industry over the past year and promote unity among those in the battery sector. Marking its fifth anniversary, this year’s ceremony will be attended by Vice Minister Moon Shinhak of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Assemblyman Kim Sungwon of the People Power Party, Kim Dongmyung, Chairman of the Korea Battery Industry Association and CEO of LG Energy Solution, Choi Jungkyung, President of the Korea-America Association, as well as over 250 distinguished contributors to the battery industry and industry stakeholders.


During the ceremony, a total of 20 contributors will receive government awards, such as the Silver Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit and the Industrial Medal, in recognition of their contributions to the advancement of the battery industry.

This year, the Silver Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit will be awarded to Jin Park, Vice President of Samsung SDI. Vice President Park has led the global electric vehicle battery market through the development of long-life, high-output battery technologies and has contributed to enhancing the safety of batteries for energy storage systems (ESS). In addition, Jang Sungkyun, CEO of L&F, will receive the Industrial Medal, and Oh Seungmo, Chief Technology Advisor of Mintech, will be awarded the Presidential Citation.


The recipients of the Prime Minister’s Citation have been selected as Choi Seokwon, Head of the LG Energy Solution Center; Lee Kyungmok, Head of the Anode Materials Development Group at POSCO Future M; Park Kisoo, Head of the Future Technology Institute at SK On; and Kim Taemin, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Eco & Dream.


In his congratulatory remarks, Vice Minister Moon assessed that Korea’s secondary battery industry is currently facing challenging times due to slowing electric vehicle demand and risks in the critical minerals supply chain. He emphasized the need for breakthrough technology development, diversification of supply chains, and the creation of new markets as directions for the industry’s resurgence. Vice Minister Moon stressed, “The government will provide full support so that our secondary battery industry can emerge from this long tunnel and take another leap forward.”
