Jinju City in South Gyeongsang Province held an "Award Ceremony for Contributors" at the City Hall Citizen Hall to recognize and honor those who contributed to the successful hosting of the "2025 Korea Garden Industry Expo."
At the ceremony held on August 19, a total of 61 individuals were awarded and thanked, including public officials who led the expo, citizens and organizations who contributed to garden creation, and volunteers who supported on-site operations.
The "2025 Korea Garden Industry Expo," held from June 13 to 22, was a national event supported by the central government. Jinju City was ultimately selected as the host city after fierce competition among eight cities, including Busan, Suwon, and Cheonan. A total budget of 2 billion KRW was spent, including funds from the central, provincial, and city governments.
Above all, the expo was especially meaningful as it was an event created together by citizens and the local community. Various stakeholders, such as citizen gardeners, volunteers, local organizations, and groups, participated voluntarily, realizing a "citizen-led garden culture." This clearly reflects Jinju City's vision and direction as a garden culture city and demonstrates a strong commitment to spreading a new garden culture.
During the 10-day event, more than 410,000 people visited the venue, attracting nationwide attention and generating an estimated economic impact of about 25 billion KRW, greatly contributing to the revitalization of the local economy. Building on these achievements, Jinju City plans to register the "Wolasan Local Garden" in 2026 and, to commemorate this, host a garden expo in the "Jewel of the Forest at Wolasan" area, laying the groundwork for future designation as a national garden.
Going forward, Jinju City will continue to promote various projects and policies centered on the "Jewel of the Forest at Wolasan" to establish a new city brand: "Jinju, a garden within a garden embracing the national garden, a garden as precious as a jewel."
Mayor Jo Gyu-il said, "Thanks to so many people quietly fulfilling their roles in their respective positions, we were able to successfully conclude the expo," adding, "We will continue to change the city through gardens and bring about positive changes in citizens' lives through the city."
