Jeollanam-do announced that it will expand the "Housing Support Project for Victims of Violence" to help residents who have suffered from various forms of violence, including domestic violence, sexual violence, and stalking, achieve independence.
The housing support project for victims of violence is designed to help victims and their accompanying family members regain psychological stability and prepare for self-reliance by providing them with safe housing. Currently, Jeollanam-do operates two housing support facilities: one in the western region (Yeongam) and one in the eastern region (Yeosu).
This initiative was selected as the only project among the 17 metropolitan and provincial governments nationwide in the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family's public contest to expand housing support for victims of violence. As a result, Jeollanam-do will receive approximately 60 million KRW in national funding. In addition to the 20 rental units already in operation, three more rental units will be added in the western region, expanding the total to 23 units.
So far, Jeollanam-do has provided stable housing to a total of 86 victims and their families from 43 households, playing a significant role in helping them establish a foundation for independence.
To secure these additional rental units, preparations for move-in are scheduled to be completed by the end of this month. The province also plans to strengthen project promotion and continuous monitoring to ensure that victims can achieve independence more stably.
Yoo Mija, Director of Gender and Family Policy for Jeollanam-do, stated, "We will continue to provide multifaceted support, including housing stability, so that victims of violence are not isolated from society and can recover their lives. We will also continue to build a customized protection system for victims to create a safe and warm Jeollanam-do."
Currently, there are a total of 350 rental housing units for victims of violence operating nationwide. Among them, Jeollanam-do is expanding its capacity from 20 to 23 units, taking the lead in protecting victims and supporting their independence.
