Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) announced that it will invest a budget of about 41 million won this year to actively operate the 'Seongdong-gu Neighborhood Learning Center.'

The district has been working to establish a differentiated dong-level lifelong learning center unique to Seongdong-gu by converting the 'Neighborhood Learning Center' project, which was operated as a Seoul city subsidy support project, into a district-led project since last year.

The 'Seongdong-gu Neighborhood Learning Center' is a dong-level lifelong learning center that utilizes idle spaces throughout the region, such as community centers and village workshops near residents' living areas, as learning spaces to provide customized lifelong learning. It operates life-centered lifelong learning programs reflecting residents' needs and supports learning community activities where anyone can learn and communicate together.

This year, the 'One Point Up Lifelong Education' is set as the operational vision of the 'Seongdong-gu Neighborhood Learning Center,' planning and operating various programs so that each learner can steadily accumulate small achievements with determination.

To build a specialized 'Seongdong-type Neighborhood Learning Center,' the district is reorganizing existing learning centers and discovering and operating trendy 'specialized learning centers' such as cafes, craft workshops, flower shops, woodworking shops, and community spaces. By linking and utilizing various commercial spaces in the region as learning spaces, the aim is to increase residents' learning opportunities, revitalize the local commercial district, and establish a foundation for mutual growth.

This year, a total of 15 'specialized learning centers' will be operated in each dong, allowing residents to continue learning in a comfortable atmosphere in familiar neighborhoods, while local workshops and stores are expected to gain opportunities to connect with new customers, achieving a win-win effect.

Seongdong-gu Office and Seongdong AI Future Technology Experience Center will operate as base learning centers, offering beneficial programs to learn the latest trends such as artificial intelligence (AI) education programs and active senior courses.

Applications for the 'Seongdong-gu Neighborhood Learning Center' programs can be made from 10 a.m. on April 28 through the 'Seongdong-gu Lifelong Learning Center' website (first-come, first-served), and all program tuition fees are free. However, textbook and material costs are the responsibility of the participants.

Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “We are striving for the solid operation of the 'Seongdong-type Neighborhood Learning Center' so that all residents can enjoy the joy of lifelong learning anytime and anywhere close to their homes,” and added, “We will continue to operate high-quality educational programs that add satisfaction to residents' lives and complete Seongdong as a lifelong learning city where everyone shares the joy of learning.”
