On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister Lee held a 'New Semester Preparation Inspection Meeting' with 17 metropolitan and provincial superintendents of education at the Seoul Government Complex and made this announcement.

The Ministry of Education formed a New Semester Preparation Inspection Team led by the Deputy Minister of Education on the 4th of last month to ensure that educational reform tasks such as artificial intelligence (AI) digital textbooks, the high school credit system, and Neulbom Schools can be settled in the school field for the new semester, holding weekly inspection meetings.

At this meeting, the legislative status of the tentative 'Haneul-i Act' for improving related systems following the death of an elementary school student in Daejeon on the 10th of last month was shared with each education office, and future promotion plans were discussed.

The Ministry of Education emphasized that regarding the 'Haneul-i Act,' cases involving harm to others and general psychological difficulties should be distinguished when establishing laws and systems. The ministry plans to actively reflect field opinions in the future to promote system improvements to prevent similar cases from occurring.

The preparation status of the AI textbooks, which will be introduced starting this year, was also checked. Deputy Prime Minister Lee said about the AI textbooks, "This is the most core policy that will lead changes in classroom instruction this year," adding, "Teachers, as experts in instruction, will be able to understand students' learning levels through AI textbooks and support customized learning, which is expected to bring about innovative changes in public education."

The Ministry of Education and education offices have been operating a linked emergency response team since last month, and plan to support the smooth utilization of AI textbooks in schools centered on this team.

To use AI textbooks in schools, it is necessary to prepare in advance by entering timetables and registering student records in NEIS (National Education Information System), and subscribing to the Education Digital One-Pass. The Ministry of Education plans to seek cooperation from metropolitan and provincial education offices so that schools can prepare by referring to the previously distributed guidance materials.

Deputy Prime Minister Lee said, "While striving to ensure that various educational reform policies including AI textbooks, Neulbom Schools, and the high school credit system are settled in the field, we will also thoroughly inspect various risk factors that could threaten students' safety."
