Dongdaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) has been selected for the Ministry of Employment and Labor's 'Youth Challenge Support Project' again this year, following last year, continuing to support young job seekers.
The district plans to recruit 120 participants by investing a total of 590 million KRW, including 520 million KRW in national funds and 70 million KRW in district funds. Graduates will receive participation allowances and incentives of 500,000 KRW for short-term courses and up to 3.5 million KRW for mid- to long-term courses.
To strengthen youth support, the district applied for the project call in January this year and secured approximately 520 million KRW in national funds after being finally selected in mid-February.
The Youth Challenge Support Project provides customized programs for long-term job seekers or youth who have given up on job searching, helping them regain confidence and increase their motivation to find employment.
Eligible participants include youth who have not participated in employment, entrepreneurship, education, or vocational training for the past six months, youth who have given up on job seeking, youth preparing for independence, youth entering or leaving youth welfare facilities, and North Korean defectors.
This year's project will be operated in short-term (5 weeks), mid-term (15 weeks), and long-term (over 25 weeks) courses, with the 'Seoul Youth Center Dongdaemun' as the organizer. The program consists of basic counseling, health and life case management, confidence recovery, career exploration, and employment competency enhancement, with additional external linkage activities and autonomous activities as needed. Lee Hye-young, Director of Youth Policy and Employment, stated, "We conducted surveys each time and immediately reflected the results to ensure participants do not drop out, making meticulous efforts. This year, we will operate programs that received high responses, such as lectures by current professionals and company visits, more solidly."
Recruitment for program participants is scheduled to take place in March, and detailed information can be obtained by contacting the Seoul Youth Center Dongdaemun.
Last year, with a budget of 460 million KRW, seven programs (2 short-term, 2 mid-term, 3 long-term) were operated. The focus was on boosting job-seeking confidence through psychological tests, resume and interview consulting, and physical fitness programs. A total of 97 people participated, 83 completed the programs, and among them, 29 were linked to employment, vocational training, or the National Employment Support System.
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, "We will actively support the social advancement of youth who have given up on job seeking to create a happy Dongdaemun-gu and strive to bring about practical changes."
