On the 31st, members of the Chungnam Asan City Council from the Democratic Party of Korea announced, "We will all vote in favor of the resignation motion for Chairperson Hong Seongpyo."

They held a general assembly of council members that afternoon and decided to make support for the resignation motion, which will be presented at the 254th extraordinary session on the 5th of next month, the party's official stance.

The Democratic Party city council members stated, "The resignation motion for Chairperson Hong was rejected at the extraordinary session on the 23rd," adding, "There is currently no leader responsible for city administration or the council."

They continued, "People Power Party city council members must cooperate in passing Chairperson Hong's resignation motion and electing a new chairperson at the 254th extraordinary session," and added, "We must not allow further confusion. We hope to see responsible politics for the citizens."

Previously, immediately after the rejection of Chairperson Hong's resignation motion, city council members from both parties exchanged statements, each blaming the other for the situation.

People Power Party city council members claimed, "Chairperson Hong submitted his resignation as a formality, and the Democratic Party is abusing its power by forcibly convening the steering committee."

Democratic Party city council members countered, "People Power Party, who had been urging Chairperson Hong to resign, suddenly voted against the motion, engaging in despicable and shallow political maneuvering."

Meanwhile, Chairperson Hong announced late at night on the 23rd that "I have resubmitted my resignation and submitted a withdrawal from the Democratic Party."

In response, the Chungnam Provincial Democratic Party expelled Chairperson Hong on the 24th, in accordance with party regulations, after he withdrew during disciplinary proceedings.
