“Dongjangnim, what time should we take out the trash?”, “Dongjangnim, can we borrow tools at the community center?”

Jung-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Kim Gilsung) announced that starting from the 23rd of this month, it will operate the nation’s first direct communication phone for Dongjangs called ‘Our Dong’s Always Reliable Ally Phone’ (Dongnae Phone) to help new residents adapt to the local community.

Recently, with the construction of new apartments and officetels in Jung-gu, the number of young people and single-person households is rapidly increasing. In response, Dongjangs, who work closest to the residents, have taken the initiative to personally support new residents for their stable settlement.

Through the Dongnae Phone, Dongjangs will send welcome messages to new residents and continuously check in to see if there are any inconveniences in daily life. The Dongnae Phone will be operated regularly from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, allowing direct communication with residents via text and calls about minor but necessary information such as trash disposal times and any complaints.

The district plans to regularly hold welcome meetings for new residents in each dong, providing useful local government information and collecting residents’ opinions, thereby creating a communication space that fosters attachment to the neighborhood.

Since last year, the district has held welcome meetings for large-scale new housing complexes, receiving enthusiastic responses from residents. Starting with Seun Prugio Hericity and Hillstate Seun Central in February last year, followed by Pildong Hillstate Namsan in April this year, and Hwanghak-dong Hillstate Cheonggye Central in August, the welcome meetings have continued. In the future, the district plans to prepare welcome meetings not only for large complexes but also for general new residents to communicate with more residents.

Jung-gu is also promoting the enactment of the ‘New Resident Support Ordinance.’ Once enacted, the ordinance will provide various benefits such as welcome kits to help residents quickly adapt to life in Jung-gu.

District Mayor Kim Gilsung said, “In Jung-gu, where people are precious, each resident is even more valuable,” and added, “Through the dong, which is closest to the residents, we will do our best to support new residents so they can quickly adapt, enjoy Jung-gu’s excellent infrastructure, and live happily.”
