National Pukyong University (President Jang Young-su) held a centennial anniversary event.
On the afternoon of the 9th, the 100th anniversary opening ceremony was held at the university headquarters, attended by guests including Kim Kwang-hoe, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs of Busan City; Jung Hyun-min, Executive Vice President of the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry; former presidents Kang Nam-ju and Park Maeng-eon; Seo Young-ok, President of the Alumni Association; Lee Seung-chul, Honorary President of the Alumni Association; former Alumni Association Presidents Lee Sang-jo and Cho Hyung-rae; Jin Gil-ho, President of the AMP Alumni Association; Kang Ui-gu, Director of the Busan Consulate; as well as faculty, staff, and students.
National Pukyong University was established through the integration of Busan Technical College, founded in 1924, and Busan Fisheries College, founded in 1941, becoming the first national comprehensive university to merge in 1996.
At the ceremony, the university introduced its historical milestones and celebrated achievements through the screening of a historical timeline video, congratulatory speeches and messages from domestic and international guests, awards for 100 distinguished individuals who have contributed to the university, and the presentation of the centennial history book.
President Jang Young-su stated, “The first page of history that began in 1924 has spanned an entire century to reach today,” adding, “Based on the specialized capabilities accumulated over a long history, we will leap forward as a global prestigious university leading the resolution of regional community challenges as well as global human issues.”
On this day, three professors?Lee Hee-young (Department of Early Childhood Education), Oh Cheol-woong (Major in Resource Biology), and Jung Won-kyo (Major in Biomedical Engineering)?received academic awards for contributing to academic development by publishing excellent papers in domestic and international journals.
Following them, three professors?Kim Jeong-hwan (Major in Human ICT Convergence), Kim Kwang-il (Department of Fisheries Biomedical Science), and Ji Sang-won (Major in Mechanical Systems Engineering)?received the Young Researcher Award for their creative and passionate research activities.
Seven professors?No Yong-seok (School of International Area Studies), Kwon Han-sang (Major in New Materials Engineering), Lee Jeong-hoon (Major in Metallurgical Engineering), Chae Soo-jong (Major in Industrial Chemistry), Kim Young-seok (Major in Environmental Geological Science), Seo Jin-ho (Major in Mechanical Systems Engineering), and Ahn Se-ryung (School of Business Administration)?received the Industry-Academia Cooperation Award for their active joint research and technology transfer efforts.
In addition, awards were presented for university development contributions, commendations for 100 distinguished individuals who have brought honor to the university, awards for university development and strengthening alumni ties, Alumni Association President’s Award, special awards for students and staff, and long-term service awards for faculty and staff.
Following the ceremony, a Pukyong family unity concert was held at the university theater as part of the Homecoming Day event.
