Three youth facilities in Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong)?Gangnam Youth Center, Yeoksam Youth Center, and Gangnam Youth Counseling and Welfare Center?were selected as top institutions in four categories of external evaluations last year, enhancing the status of Gangnam as a youth-friendly city.

At the 24th Seoul Youth Volunteer Awards held on November 25 last year, Gangnam Youth Center was selected as the ‘Best Volunteer Base’ and received the Seoul Metropolitan Mayor’s Award.

Gangnam Youth Center (26, Yeongdong-daero 131-gil, Gangnam-gu) operated programs that allowed youth to plan self-directed volunteer activities, helping them realize that volunteering is not just a way to pass time but a process of learning and gaining experience.

They also carried out various volunteer activities linked with schools, institutions, and the local community, providing feedback on the outcomes of these activities. As a result, through over 170 programs such as campaigns for creating a proper pet culture, marine pollution experience activities, and ASMR production capturing the sounds of the Earth, more than 20,900 youths were able to enjoy volunteering.

Furthermore, on December 14 last year, at the evaluation competition for excellent programs of district-run youth facilities hosted by the Seoul Youth Facilities Association, Gangnam Youth Center and Yeoksam Youth Center were selected as top institutions in the youth specialization activity category and youth cultural planning activity category, respectively. Additionally, Gangnam Youth Counseling and Welfare Center was selected as the top institution in the regional specialization project category of the same competition.

Gangnam Youth Center promoted a specialized project linked with the free semester system classes for first-year middle school students, where students directly planned an 8-week school violence prevention education program. Among the educational programs devised by students, a board game-based program that received excellent evaluations was selected and actually operated in elementary schools from October to November last year, achieving an 87% satisfaction rate among participants.

Yeoksam Youth Center (7, Nonhyeon-ro 64-gil, Gangnam-gu) planned a cultural program called ‘Challenge! Golden Bell’ in celebration of Liberation Day. The Youth Operation Committee, five volunteer-sharing clubs, and seven cultural and arts clubs took full charge of planning, promotion, question creation, and operation. The Golden Bell event held on August 12, with a total of 20 teams participating, showcased the students’ planning skills that could inspire historical awareness.

Gangnam Youth Counseling and Welfare Center (144, Gwangpyeong-ro, Gangnam-gu) developed a manual called ‘SWUPA (Stress and Depression Partner)’ to prevent suicide, the leading cause of death among youth. Based on a 2019 survey of 946 youths, the manual was created over two years. After pilot operation and effectiveness verification, it has been distributed to applying schools since last year, with 1,788 students participating.

Jo Seong-myeong, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, stated, “As a result of our efforts to operate high-quality programs at youth facilities, we were recognized across various fields. We will continue to actively support youth so that they can proactively develop their abilities and talents through diverse specialized projects.”
