"Accurate Image Quality Without Distortion or Exaggeration"… LGD Hosts 'Art Wave' in Seongsu-dong

88·77-inch Ultra-Large Transparent OLED Panel Utilization
"Optimal Role as a 'Digital Canvas'"

LG Display announced on the 2nd that it will hold the digital art exhibition 'Art Wave' at the complex cultural space Ssene in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, until the 7th. The exhibition showcases organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panels that deliver accurate image quality without distortion or exaggeration, allowing artists to paint exactly as they envision.

Now in its third year, Art Wave is a project that promotes the value of OLED through the fusion of art and technology and provides exhibition opportunities for emerging artists both domestically and internationally. The theme of this year's exhibition is 'LONG DREAM.' Five teams of artists from Korea and abroad, including Koo Ki-jung, Song Ye-hwan, Studio Artech, Yalu, and Jonathan Monaghan, participated. The artists used 16 OLEDs, including LG Display’s 88- and 77-inch extra-large OLEDs and transparent OLEDs, to depict a 'utopia connecting virtual and reality through light and color.'

LG Display stated that its OLED panels possess overwhelming color reproduction capabilities and perfect black realization. Because they can reproduce the original creator’s intent without distortion or exaggeration, they are also called the optimal 'digital canvas.' LG Display is the only company mass-producing transparent OLEDs. These panels are regarded as canvases that transcend the limitations of conventional displays by enabling three-dimensional artwork realization. The artists said, "Through LG Display’s unique form factors such as extra-large and transparent OLEDs, we were able to present new digital art techniques."

For example, Studio Artech’s work 'Show me your memories' is a piece that reinterprets 'the light and city that inspired me,' as answered by LG Display employees, through artificial intelligence (AI). In the darkness, five transparent OLEDs pour out colorful light, making viewers feel as if they are in space.

LG Display has been conducting various OLED art projects, including showcasing immersive transparent OLED works at the 'PIXELBLOOM: Timeless Butterflies' exhibition held in March at Artechouse in Washington, USA. Jin Min-kyu, head of marketing support at LG Display, said, "Digital art is a field where OLED’s rich color expression, perfect black, and high luminance (screen brightness) can be fully utilized. Through the meeting of OLED and art, we will promote the unique value of OLED."
