HD Hyundai Heavy Industries announced on the 17th that it produced 2 out of the 4 total passers in the shipbuilding engineer category of the '130th Regular Professional Engineer Examination' conducted this year by the Human Resources Development Service of Korea. The shipbuilding engineer exam is held once a year.

Additionally, from 2019 to this year, nearly half of the total 50 shipbuilding engineer passers over the past five years, 24 individuals, belonged to HD Hyundai Heavy Industries. The professional engineer certification is the highest level of national qualification, and the shipbuilding engineer requires a high level of knowledge across all areas of shipbuilding, including design, production, and technology development, along with many years of practical experience.

The shipbuilding engineer exam is highly difficult, with only 1 passer out of 24 written exam candidates this year. The number of professional engineers held can be seen as a core indicator of the technical competitiveness and capability of technical talent.

Besides shipbuilding engineers, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries also has professional engineers in various fields such as welding, chemical engineering, metallic materials, and industrial machinery equipment.

Kim Deok-gi, a responsible manager (48 years old) at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries who obtained the shipbuilding engineer qualification this year, said, "I wanted to feel a sense of accomplishment based on specialized knowledge and practical experience," and added, "I will become a professional engineer I can be proud of and contribute to enhancing the technological capabilities of Korea's shipbuilding industry."

Another passer, Kim Tae-hyun, a senior engineer (33 years old), said, "No matter how tired I was after work, I studied consistently, and I am very proud that the results came out well," and added, "I will work harder to add more expertise to the work I am currently doing."

The reason HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has such high-level technical talent is due to the company's systematic support and active exchanges among employees.

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries operates a voluntary job training course where employees holding professional engineer qualifications lecture to those preparing for the exam, and employees also formed in-house clubs to generously share exam know-how and knowledge.

Meanwhile, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is putting great effort not only into technical talent such as professional engineers but also into nurturing skilled workers with the best production technology. Through in-house technical qualification systems and internal skills competitions, the company motivates and actively supports employees to improve their technical skills.

Thanks to this support, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has produced 29 recipients of the Korea Master Craftsman title, awarded to the best skilled technicians. Furthermore, it has demonstrated outstanding technical skills on the world stage, winning gold medals 20 consecutive times at the International Skills Olympics and a total of 104 awards.
