On the 16th, LG Chem announced that it signed a business agreement with Amorepacific at Amorepacific's headquarters in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, to develop and supply eco-friendly packaging.
LG Chem will supply recycled materials, pyrolysis oil, and bio-based plastic raw materials, while Amorepacific will apply eco-friendly materials to cosmetic and household product packaging.
LG Chem plans to start by applying PCR (post-consumer recycled) PE (recycled polyethylene) to Amorepacific's Mise-en-sc?ne product containers and PCR PP (recycled polypropylene) to the caps, and then expand the supply of eco-friendly materials such as bio-based raw materials and plastics based on pyrolysis oil.
Additionally, the two companies will share customer feedback to operate an eco-friendly material development program and establish a circular model that connects supply, collection, and recycling.
As leading companies in the chemical and cosmetics industries, both parties expect this agreement to create eco-friendly demand and quickly identify customer needs to lead the eco-friendly market.
Kang Myung-gu, Executive Vice President and Head of SCM Unit at Amorepacific, stated, "Based on the eco-friendly business philosophies of both companies, we hope this agreement will generate synergy between us," adding, "Amorepacific will continue to join hands with the entire corporate ecosystem to make the world a more beautiful place through our best efforts."
Yang Sun-min, Executive Vice President and Head of NCC/PO Division at LG Chem, said, "It is significant that two leading companies in their respective fields have joined hands to expand the eco-friendly market," and added, "LG Chem will lead and actively expand the customized eco-friendly plastics market for customers."
Meanwhile, as part of its sustainability strategy, LG Chem has launched diapers and flooring products using bio-based raw materials and introduced eco-friendly remote controls and set-top boxes made with recycled plastics. Furthermore, with the groundbreaking of a supercritical pyrolysis oil plant in March, LG Chem is focusing on carbon neutrality and resource circulation activities.
