Jaseng Korean Medicine Hospital announced that its 'Jaseng MediBio Center,' the largest Korean medicine preparation facility in Korea capable of integrally operating all processes including standardized herbal medicine processing, herbal medicine and acupuncture solution preparation, and delivery, officially began full-scale operation on the 16th.
Located in Jungwon-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, the Jaseng MediBio Center was built with a total area of 7,000 pyeong across 4 floors above ground and 1 basement floor. The center consolidates facilities for herbal medicine and acupuncture solution preparation, herbal medicine processing and quality inspection, preparation water management, and delivery. It can prepare up to 1,500 doses of herbal medicine per day and has the capacity to process up to 800 tons of standardized herbal medicine annually. The facility is also equipped to prepare all types of Korean medical pharmaceuticals including acupuncture solutions, decoctions, pills, concentrates, ointments, granules, and capsules. Acupuncture solutions have been supplied to over 5,000 Korean medical institutions nationwide since the center began operation.
The hospital explained that the Jaseng MediBio Center differentiates itself not only in scale but also in quality. The center’s infrastructure for processing and supplying herbal medicines was the first in Korea to obtain certification after an on-site inspection by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety for hGMP (Herbal Medicine Manufacturing and Quality Control Standards). Additionally, it has been the only company to be selected as an hGMP excellent company for five consecutive years since 2018.
As of October, a total of 460 types of herbal medicines have been registered and approved. The hospital stated that only top-grade herbal medicines from Korea as well as China, Russia, Vietnam, Peru, and other countries worldwide are carefully selected and used. Furthermore, all herbal medicines undergo more than nine rounds of component verification and impurity tests for residual pesticides, heavy metals, and other contaminants during purchase, receipt, and shipment processes, and are stored under consistent temperature and humidity conditions suited to the characteristics of each herb.

In the acupuncture solution preparation facility, cross-contamination between raw materials, supplies, and waste is prevented through the operation of sterile rooms classified into four grades (Grade A to D).
The water used for preparing herbal medicines is also managed cleanly 24 hours a day. Water for decoction is purified in an underground water treatment facility using a three-stage filtration system (micro, carbon, membrane) with reverse osmosis and an electric deionization (EDI) system that removes ions from the water using electricity, maintaining impurity-free water. Thorough water quality management continues with tests for organic carbon, conductivity, and microorganisms.
Most of the preparation processes are automated. Since harmful substances are not allowed to enter acupuncture solutions injected into affected areas, the solution undergoes two filtration steps using sterilizing filters with a pore size of 0.2 micrometers (μm) after decoction. Vial containers for acupuncture solutions are sterilized at temperatures above 300 degrees Celsius after six cleaning steps including ultrasonic vibration and high-pressure purified water spraying to ensure they are contamination-free. They must then pass a full inspection for foreign substances and quality tests before shipment.
Prepared herbal medicines are safely delivered to patients within a few days through an in-house delivery system. Just before delivery, the packaging condition and weight of the herbal medicines are checked to ensure there are no issues with the address or quantity. For Seoul and metropolitan areas where direct delivery is possible, regional managers are assigned to ensure prompt delivery management.
Shin Junsik, founder of Jaseng Korean Medicine Hospital, said, "The Jaseng MediBio Center prepares herbal medicines with thorough standards and the mindset of making medicine for our own family, in line with the hospital’s founding philosophy of 'compassionate heart.' We will continue to strive so that patients and the public can feel more assured and trust Korean medicine."
