According to the British Guardian and others on the 20th (local time), American bodybuilder Jim Arrington (90) recently stated in an interview with Guinness World Records that his secret to health is exercise and a healthy diet.
Arrington was listed in the Guinness World Records as the world's oldest bodybuilder at the age of 83 in 2015 and has been actively competing, winning bodybuilding competitions to this day. In particular, he recently placed 3rd in the men's 70+ category and won the 80+ category at the International Federation of Bodybuilding & Fitness (IFBB) competition held in Nevada, USA.
With over 70 years of bodybuilding experience and at the age of 90, Arrington said he visits the gym more than three times a week and does weight training for two hours. A trainer at the gym he attends said, "I see Arrington almost every day."
However, Arrington was not born with a naturally fit body. He was a premature baby weighing 2.5 kg at birth. He also said he suffered from illnesses such as asthma during his childhood.
Arrington started exercising in 1947 when he was 15 years old. Feeling he could no longer live like that, he thought, "I want to be a superhero," and began lifting barbells.
He later began his bodybuilding activities by participating in bodybuilding shows held at Muscle Beach in Santa Monica, California.
Arrington has also consistently controlled his diet. He said, "At one time, I ate a lot of milk and beef for protein intake," but added, "As I got older, I experienced inflammatory reactions." Therefore, he said, "Now I eat a lot of foods containing mushrooms, olive oil, and healthy agricultural products," and added, "I believe this diet will allow me to continue training."
Arrington said he "rates his body very low" as a bodybuilder, but this mindset motivates him to continue training.
He also said, "Becoming a Guinness World Record holder opened up a completely new world for me," and added, "It inspired me to keep bodybuilding."

Meanwhile, the oldest bodybuilder in South Korea is Seo Young-gap (88). He worked as an English teacher in middle and high schools, nurturing younger generations, and retired as a principal at a middle school.
He started exercising because he constantly suffered from knee and back pain due to a lifestyle of going to work early in the morning and returning late at night around the age of 50. Starting with winning first place in the middle-aged division at the Daegu Metropolitan City Mayor's Cup in 1999 at the age of 64, he has been actively competing to this day.
