Former KBS announcer and Konkuk University Graduate School of Media and Communication invited professor Kang Seong-gon has published a new book titled Precise Words, Sophisticated Words, Considerate Words. The book addresses issues such as spacing errors, English-style expressions, remnants of Japanese, words used with misunderstood meanings, inappropriate metaphors, words that do not fit the context, harsh and rough language, and unclear expressions (요령부득, 要領不得). He states, "Announcers are the most sensitive observers and thorough proofreaders of the Korean language."
Professor Kang condensed the competencies needed by modern people in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution into the '4Cs.' First, he identified Communication as the most important. He defined communication as the ability to understand the meaning of others' writing and speech and to properly express one's own writing and speech accordingly.
The second is Collaboration, which involves working smoothly and harmoniously with others to achieve the best results through cooperation and teamwork. The third is Critical Thinking, which entails understanding situations and issues, identifying the core of problems, and deriving effective improvements.
The last is Creativity, which relates to new perspectives and innovative approaches.
Professor Kang emphasizes the power of language in his book, stating that ultimately, language proves these '4Cs.' This book appears essential for those interested in the Korean language or who wish to use accurate expressions.
