The 2025-2026 Gyeonggi-do Sports Festival to be Held in Gapyeong

The 2025 Gyeonggi-do Sports Festival and Gyeonggi-do Disabled Sports Festival, as well as the 2026 Gyeonggi-do Sports for All Festival and Gyeonggi-do Disabled Sports for All Festival, will be held in Gapyeong-gun.

Gyeonggi-do recently held a meeting of the Gyeonggi-do Sports Promotion Council and unanimously confirmed Gapyeong-gun as the host city for the comprehensive sports festivals in 2025 and 2026, the province announced on the 25th.

The Gyeonggi-do Comprehensive Sports Festival has changed from the "single-year simultaneous hosting method," in which all comprehensive sports festivals in a year were held in one host city since 2017, to the "alternate year dispersed hosting method" starting this year.

Earlier, from January, after an 8-week public announcement for bidding to host the event, Gapyeong-gun submitted a sole application. Gapyeong-gun had also challenged to host the Gyeonggi-do Comprehensive Sports Festival in 2018 and 2019 but was eliminated in the final selection round.

Kim Hyun-su, Director of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of Gyeonggi-do, stated, "Gapyeong-gun has achieved a valuable success in hosting the comprehensive sports festival after three attempts," and emphasized, "We will do our best to prepare the sports festival together with Gapyeong-gun so that 14 million residents of Gyeonggi-do can gather in one place to foster friendship and harmony."
