Arts Council Korea and SGI Seoul Guarantee are promoting the ‘SGI Dream Theater’ sponsorship project. This project began in 2021 as part of social contribution activities for regional coexistence, supporting small theaters in the Daehangno area, which has been struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, the scope of beneficiaries has expanded to include support for theater viewing for culturally marginalized groups and support for the production of new works by young artists.
The sponsorship funds for this year’s ‘SGI Dream Theater’ will be used to establish barrier-free performance equipment at the Daehangno Arts Theater and to support the National Seoul Agricultural School students’ attendance at performances, aiming to create a boundary-free performance culture where both non-disabled and disabled people can enjoy together.
Now in its third year, the ‘SGI Dream Theater’ sponsorship project began with Arts Council Korea, SGI Seoul Guarantee, and middle and high school students from the National Seoul Agricultural School watching together the barrier-free play ‘Sonyeondae-ro’ by the beneficiary theater company from the previous year, ‘Geukdan Bimilgiji’.
Jung Byung-guk, Chairman of the Arts Council Korea, said, "I sincerely thank SGI Seoul Guarantee for sponsoring so that Daehangno, the number one place for performance culture, can break down the boundaries between disabled and non-disabled people and become an artistic site that practices the values of diversity and inclusion together." He added, "Arts Council Korea will take the lead in creating a boundary-free performance culture that everyone can enjoy together."
