[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] The 9-member K-pop group 'CRAVITY' is stepping forward as cultural ambassadors to promote Korean culture worldwide, following BTS and WINNER.

On the 15th, the Overseas Culture and Public Relations Agency of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that it selected the 9-member K-pop group CRAVITY as the '2022 Korean Culture Overseas Promotion Ambassadors' and presented them with appointment certificates at the KOSIS Center on the 10th floor of the Korea Press Center.

CRAVITY will participate in various activities to promote Korean culture worldwide, starting with promoting the 'International Content Contest' hosted by the Overseas Culture and Public Relations Agency.

CRAVITY is a representative 4th generation idol group that debuted in 2020. Known for their refreshing image and powerful performances, they have attracted attention overseas. Recently, they successfully completed their tour in the Americas.

Since 2014, the Overseas Culture and Public Relations Agency has selected K-pop idol groups with high overseas recognition and growth potential as promotional models or ambassadors for the contest, promoting Korean culture abroad.

In 2014, ZE:A, in 2015 CNBLUE, in 2016 BTS, in 2017 CHENBAEKSI and EXO, in 2018 WINNER, in 2019 Stray Kids, in 2020 ATEEZ, and in 2021 LOONA served as promotional models and ambassadors.

Along with selecting the promotional ambassadors, the Overseas Culture and Public Relations Agency is conducting the 2022 International Content Contest (Talk Talk Korea). Now in its 9th year, the contest is open from the 15th until October 31st to foreigners residing both domestically and abroad.

The theme is 'What I Love About Korea.' Entries are accepted under seven sub-themes: ▲Photography ▲Webtoon ▲Story ▲Traditional Games ▲Hangul Calligraphy ▲Travel ▲Music Video. Each sub-theme has a different submission period, and participants must submit their works on the official website within the designated period.

On the website, visitors can view past contest winners and check submissions in real time.

The contest winners will be selected through a comprehensive evaluation by experts including online voting, with 140 works ranked from 1st to 5th place per theme. The results will be announced collectively in December. Seven first-place winners, one from each theme, will be given a 4-night, 5-day trip to Korea to experience Korean culture firsthand.

Additionally, a separate event will be held where various prizes, including signed albums (CDs) by CRAVITY, who were appointed as this year’s Korean Culture Overseas Promotion Ambassadors, will be given away.

CRAVITY leader Serim expressed, "As ambassadors, we will communicate with Hallyu fans worldwide and strive to widely promote the charm of Korean culture so that we can be loved even more by people around the world."

Park Myungsun, head of the Overseas Culture and Public Relations Agency, said, "Thanks to the activities of previous Korean Culture Overseas Promotion Ambassadors, not only the contest but also global interest and participation in Korean culture have been continuously increasing. We look forward to the active activities of this year’s ambassadors, CRAVITY," adding, "We hope that people around the world will continue to communicate through Korean culture and unite as global citizens who love culture."
