[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] Global leisure platform company Yanolja announced on the 16th that it will donate saplings worth 1 billion KRW to aid the recovery from the wildfires in Gangwon Province.
As part of its ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management, Yanolja has planned the "Gangwondo-ya, Pureugo Ulchanghage Nolja" (Gangwon Province, Let’s Play Green and Lush) project to restore the forest ecosystem damaged by recent wildfires in the Gangwon region and contribute to the recovery of the local economy through revitalizing tourism in Gangwon Province. Through this campaign, the company aims to convey the value of sustainable travel to customers while establishing a virtuous cycle of coexistence with local communities and environmental protection.
First, Yanolja will run a campaign until next month where for every reservation of accommodation, leisure, dining, or transportation products in Gangwon Province made through the Yanolja application, one sapling will be donated, targeting a total of 100,000 saplings. The donated saplings will be delivered to the affected areas immediately after the soil fertility recovers from the fire damage and used for forest creation, with all costs fully covered by Yanolja. Additionally, customers who participate in the project will be given the opportunity to join tree-planting events for forest creation.
To overcome the crisis in the stagnant tourism industry of Gangwon Province, Yanolja will actively cooperate with local governments. Based on the public-private cooperation project with Gangwon Province that has continued since 2020, the company plans to develop tourism content within the region and provide various promotions and information, leading efforts for mutual growth with the local community.
Yanolja employees will also participate in helping the wildfire-affected areas. Considering the high interest of employees in the recent wildfires, Yanolja has opened a basket funding project channel. Donations collected through the funding by April 15 will be fully used to purchase saplings for forest creation in the wildfire-affected areas.
So Seong-moon, Head of Brand Marketing at Yanolja, said, “We hope that Gangwon Province, which suffered great damage from the sudden fire, can overcome its pain as soon as possible. Through this campaign involving the company, customers, and employees, we will actively support the local economy and ecological restoration and establish a foundation for sustainable growth of the local community through active cooperation with local governments.”
Meanwhile, Yanolja is strengthening its ESG management by actively supporting communities affected by natural disasters. In 2016 and 2017, it waived fees and delivered relief supplies to the earthquake-affected regions of Gyeongju and Pohang. In 2019, Yanolja created the "Yanolja Forest," a 33,057㎡ (10,000 pyeong) area in Ok-gye-myeon, Gangneung City, to aid recovery from the Gangwon Province wildfires.
