[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Korea Polytechnic University Robot Campus, the only robot-specialized university in Korea, announced on the 29th that it will recruit 'new students for the 2-year degree program for the 2022 academic year' from the 30th until January 12 of next year. Students are expected to have the opportunity to engage in convergent learning across all fields of robotics, covering four departments.

The departments and number of recruits are 25 students each for the four departments: Robot Machinery, Robot Electronics, Robot Automation, and Robot Information Technology (IT), totaling 100 students. In particular, Polytechnic is focusing on nurturing 'AI+x' talents who can promote technological innovation by combining artificial intelligence technology (AI) with all industrial technologies (x). In the first semester of the first year, students take common robotics courses regardless of their detailed major, and from the second semester of the first year onward, a 'convergent major system' is operated, where modular team teaching (professor + 2-3 students) is organized by major to carry out project assignments.

Polytechnic reported that it is achieving external results through the implementation of the convergent major system. The 'RBRV' team, a study club from the Robot Automation Department, submitted a paper titled 'Design of a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN)-based Pharmaceutical Recognition Device' in October, jointly supervised by Professor Kim Hyundon. This paper was published in the 'Journal of the Korean Institute of Embedded Engineering.' It is very rare for 2-year college students to publish a paper.

The 'P.O' team, a study club from the Robot Automation Department, also won an encouragement award in October at the '2021 Innovation Expo Video Contest' hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety with the theme 'Pharmaceutical Information Notification Application.'

Lee Yeonbo, Dean of the Robot Campus, said, "As the only robot-specialized university in Korea, we will take the lead in nurturing convergent and complex technical talents equipped with practical skills through differentiated education," adding, "We will establish ourselves as a robot campus that contributes to national industrial development by training personnel needed in the industrial field."
