[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Yuyu Pharma announced on the 17th that it will collaborate with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) on joint research for a new drug to treat stroke. This is the second joint research project between Yuyu Pharma and UCLA researchers since the announcement of a multiple sclerosis treatment drug development project in early March.
Yuyu Pharma and UCLA are developing a new drug that may aid recovery after stroke. Yuyu Pharma is developing the drug candidate substances, while UCLA researchers are conducting preclinical trials. Through this, they plan to further develop new compounds. Yuyu Pharma will hold exclusive rights to intellectual property and commercialization for the stroke recovery treatment drug developed through this industry-academic cooperation joint research.
Currently, there is no medical treatment that promotes brain recovery after stroke occurrence. Accordingly, the new drug development research conducted by Yuyu Pharma and UCLA is expected to help patients suffering from stroke aftereffects and families burdened with long-term treatment costs.
Yoo Won-sang, CEO of Yuyu Pharma, said, “We will strive to ensure that this industry-academic cooperation joint research between Yuyu Pharma and UCLA contributes to hope for treating stroke patients' aftereffects.”
Meanwhile, the industry-academic cooperation joint research between Yuyu Pharma and UCLA was conducted by UCLA TDG, which leads partnerships with private companies to manage UCLA’s intellectual property and commercialize various research projects.
