Kia Motors Launches 2021 Mohave with Enhanced ADAS Features

[Asia Economy Reporter Su-yeon Woo] Kia Motors launched the premium large sports utility vehicle (SUV) '2021 Mohave' with enhanced product quality on the 11th and officially began sales.

The 2021 Mohave features newly added advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and convenience specifications, as well as improvements in controls and ride comfort.

The new Mohave is equipped with Kia's first-ever front-side radar-based Highway Driving Assist II (HDA II). This feature assists the driver in various situations by helping with lane changes through steering wheel control when the turn signal switch is operated, supporting driving on highways and expressways, and responding to vehicles cutting in at close range in traffic congestion at speeds below 20 km/h.

Additionally, this Mohave is equipped with an advanced driver assistance system that is more enhanced than previous models. It includes a navigation-based smart cruise control with on/off ramp function that adjusts speed for safe driving on highway entrances and exits, and a driving style-linked smart cruise control that reflects the driver's usual driving tendencies, increasing driving convenience.

The 2021 Mohave also features Kia's first application of a new head-up display (HUD). The size has been increased from the previous 8.5 inches to 10 inches, and functions such as displaying road curvature and lane changes have been added to improve usability. It is offered as a standalone optional item, expanding the range of choices.

Furthermore, rear occupant alert (ROA) and smartphone wireless charging are standard on all trims, and the smart posture control system (IMS), which automatically adjusts the position of the steering wheel and outside mirrors according to the driver's body shape, has been applied for the first time in a Kia SUV on the flagship Masters trim, enhancing customer satisfaction.

The powertrain is equipped with a V6 3.0 diesel engine that meets the strengthened Euro 6 emission regulations. An organ-type accelerator pedal fixed to the vehicle floor under the pedal improves driving convenience, and soundproof glass is applied to the front door to enhance quietness. Considering the recent trend of car camping, a trailer hitch capable of towing trailers has been newly added as a customizable option.

The 2021 Mohave sales prices, based on a 3.5% individual consumption tax, are ▲Platinum 48.69 million KRW ▲Masters 52.86 million KRW ▲Gravity 56.94 million KRW.

A Kia Motors official said, "We expect the flagship SUV Mohave to improve customer satisfaction with enhanced advanced safety and convenience features," adding, "We will continue to strengthen our position in the large SUV market with excellent product quality and various marketing activities."

Meanwhile, Kia Motors plans to release a digital campaign video conveying the Mohave brand and product quality in mid-January. It is expected to naturally convey the charm of the newly launched Mohave by showing customers aged 35-44 who express their convictions in their own way while highlighting Mohave's heritage.
