[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] From now on, when changing combined services of high-speed internet and paid broadcasting (IPTV, satellite broadcasting), cancellation will be processed all at once with just a subscription application.
The Korea Communications Commission (KCC) announced that the one-stop service provider switching service with this content will be implemented on the 27th. Until now, the cancellation and new subscription procedures for these broadcasting and communication combined services were handled separately, but from now on, they will be processed with a single application. This means that when applying for a new subscription to a provider, the cancellation of the existing service is automatically processed. Customers who want to change services can apply for service switching at the provider’s customer center or retail stores (including agencies and sales points).
The KCC expects that with the implementation of this service, the inconvenience caused by cancellation defense, which has been a chronic problem in the wired communication market, and issues such as double billing will disappear, thereby increasing user convenience. The revised system will be applied first to five nationwide providers: KT, LG Uplus, SK Broadband, SK Telecom, and KT Skylife. Regional cable broadcasting providers such as LG HelloVision, D'Live, Hyundai HCN, and CMB will adopt it one year later, in July next year.
On the same day, the KCC held an opening ceremony for the one-stop switching service management center at the Korea Telecommunications Operators Association. Han Sang-hyuk, Chairman of the KCC, said, "Since service stabilization is important in the early stages of system improvement, I ask providers to take interest and strive to enhance user convenience," and added, "The KCC will continue to revise systems in line with the times, resolve public inconveniences, and work to add convenience to daily life."
