[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Seul-gi] Stylist Han Hye-yeon’s YouTube channel 'Shususu TV' has responded to the controversy over the omission of paid advertisement labels in its content, stating, "We will do our best to prevent this from happening again."
On the 15th, 'Shususu TV' stated, "It has been our basic principle to label 'paid advertisement' on 'Shususu' content that received advertising or sponsorship, but upon review, we confirmed that some content lacked this label."
They added, "We will immediately correct the relevant content by adding the phrase 'contains paid advertisement,' and we will do our best to prevent recurrence through a thorough production verification system."
Earlier that day, Dispatch reported that Han Hye-yeon, Kang Min-kyung, and others received advertising fees worth tens of millions of won and used sponsored products in their content without properly labeling them as 'paid advertisements.'
Han Hye-yeon has been hosting a segment called 'Bought with My Own Money (Naedonnaesan)' on the YouTube channel 'Shususu TV,' recommending products, but controversy arose when it was revealed that some of the introduced products were actually advertisements or sponsored items.
Meanwhile, on the 23rd of last month, the Fair Trade Commission (FTC) announced that review content created on social network services (SNS) such as YouTube and Instagram in exchange for economic benefits must not disguise advertisements by failing to disclose sponsorships.
Accordingly, when posting product reviews or other content in exchange for economic benefits, it is mandatory to clearly indicate paid advertisement labels.
