[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Asia Cement and Halla Cement have jointly decided to provide all cement and dry mortar to be used in the 2020 Korea Habitat 'Building Hope Homes' project free of charge. On the 12th, the two companies held a signing ceremony regarding this agreement at Halla Cement's Seoul office located in Yeoksam-dong, Seoul, attended by each company's representatives.
Sponsorship of Korea Habitat has been a representative social contribution by Halla Cement since 2001, and since Halla Cement became a subsidiary of Asia Cement in 2018, both companies have been sponsoring together. Additionally, every summer, employees and their families from both companies participate as volunteers at the 'Building Hope Homes' construction sites.
This year's signing ceremony was held at the 3rd floor of Asia Tower in Yeoksam-dong, Seoul, at Halla Cement's Seoul office, attended by Asia Cement Executive Director Yang Seung-jo, Halla Cement CEO Hwang Seok-yong, and Korea Habitat Acting Secretary-General Lee Kwang-hoe. The sponsored items are cement and dry mortar produced by both companies, with an annual sponsorship amounting to approximately 100 million KRW worth of materials.
However, due to the potential reduction of construction sites caused by the spread of COVID-19 this year, the required quantity may vary somewhat.
In mid-August, about 60 employees and family members from both companies plan to volunteer at Korea Habitat construction sites to share hope with vulnerable housing groups.
Hwang Seok-yong, CEO of Halla Cement, said, "We are very pleased that Halla Cement and Asia Cement can participate together in the good work Korea Habitat is carrying out," adding, "Amid the difficulties faced by the entire nation due to COVID-19, we hope our small support will become a spark of hope for our neighbors."
