[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) will actively promote the ‘2020 Startup Advancement Support Project’ from this month until the end of December.

This project is part of the Soongsil University Campus Town Development Project, which aims to build an IT convergence cluster by investing 10 billion KRW by 2023. It was launched to provide a foundation for early-stage startups under five years old to develop prototypes and commercialize their businesses.

Last month, the district recruited participating companies, with a total of 226 companies applying, and finally selected 10 companies.

The research and development fields of the selected companies include ▲eco-friendly water heating devices ▲micro mold development ▲data-based freelancer brokerage ▲general and expert-use Kurebe services ▲couple relationship solution platforms.

Kurebe refers to a customized information service for YouTube creators.

In particular, among local companies with the latest smart technologies, five companies were selected for ▲smart flowerpot using IoT technology ▲data and AI-based non-face-to-face special product introduction ▲natural antibacterial cosmetics ▲customizing printing ▲mobile used car certification system.

The district will support each selected company with up to 10 million KRW for item development until the end of December, as well as ▲management and technical consulting and education ▲prototype production, certification, intellectual property rights, marketing mentoring ▲co-working spaces, office spaces, and other office facilities.

Additionally, the district plans to expand the SangSang Kiwoom Hall within Soongsil University by next year to create a ‘Tech Station’ (487-8 Sangdo-dong), a practical space for (prospective) entrepreneurs.

With a total floor area of 1,580㎡ from basement level 1 to the 5th floor, it will be equipped with ▲basement floor, training rooms, conference rooms ▲1st floor, Dongjak Creativity Cafe and 3D Creation Lab ▲2nd floor, photo and UCC studio ▲3rd to 5th floors, startup office spaces, providing step-by-step customized support for young people dreaming of entrepreneurship.

Park Beom-jin, Head of the Strategic Business Division, said, “Through this project, we will do our best to create an employment and startup environment so that young people can fully demonstrate their capabilities and realize their dreams even amid the economic crisis caused by COVID-19.”

Last December, the district was finally selected for the ‘Seoul Comprehensive Campus Town Contest Project’ and will expand the Soongsil University Campus Town Development Project, which had been conducted as a unit-type, into a comprehensive type to promote the project.
